This report has been compiled and written by Valerie Carter (United Kingdom) using archive material kept in Germany and the United Kingdom, with Michael Dower acting as editor. Thanks go to Angus Fowler (Germany) and Michael Dower (United Kingdom) who were involved in shaping the organisation in the early years; they kept archive material from 1984 to 2000 and provided vital information, adding ‘flesh’ to the bare bones of ‘facts’. Thanks also to Tihana Stepinac Fabijanic (Croatia); Andrea Weigert (Germany); Pam Moore and Phil Turner (United Kingdom) who kept valuable records from 2000-2018; and to all those members referred to in this record, who have given their valuable voluntary time to help make ECOVAST a well-recognised voice of rural concerns all over geographical Europe.

This history is dedicated to the memory of Angus Fowler who died suddenly in December 2017. He was not only a founder member of ECOVAST in 1984, but also a continuous and enthusiastic member of the ECOVAST International Committee including service as Past President, Senior Vice President and Vice President.
